Did you see the solar eclipse the other day? Me neither. Apparently, the best viewing for this weather phenomenon was in the Uk or U2’s homeland…no not NYC…Ireland. A solar eclipse is very much like U2’s fan base, only a small amount of people get to see them, while the rest of the world bemoans the fact that they can’t/don’t or won’t see them, which leads me to today’s question boys & girls, how far would you travel to see U2?
For example, in a moment of Rocky mountain High, U2 added Denver to the mix last week. If any of you are worried about Adam being in the most recent state to decriminalize marijuana, you’re not alone. Rumor has it that Denver Bronco quarterback, Peyton Manning, will be at the show, just make sure you get there early though. Peyton tends to fade and become invisible near the end of all big shows.;) But, what if a U2 fan lived in say, North Dakota? My 1st question to them would be, “Why do you live in North Dakota?” Secondly, would you travel all the way to Denver for a chance to see u2? Does North Dakota even have airports?
I am fortunate enough to live in a state that not only loves U2, but U2 loves. Sure I’m a “Masshole,” but I’m a “Masshole” that gets to see U2 every tour less than a 1/2 hour from his house. Fact: when U2 is planning any tour, they tell their touring agent, book us in Boston and then anywhere else you want us to play. So, with so few stops on the North American tour, exactly how far would you travel to see U2? 100, 1,000, 10,000 miles or for our European friends 100, 1,000 or 10,000 kilometers or is it euros you use to measure distance, I forget. 😉
What if you’re a U2 fan living in Alaska? “Juneau” U2 has no chance of playing in your state, what are you to do, crawl in your igloo & freeze your Kodiaks off? See what I did there. 😉 You have a better chance of seeing U2 if you lived in the state of confusion, than Alaska.
The bottom line is, U2 tickets are the least of your financial concern if you live outside a 100 mile radius of Boston, NY, Chicago or LA. Between hotels, travel, food, beverages, souvenirs and other miscellaneous goods associated with going to a concert, you could be out $2,000, which ironically is the about median yearly income for a North Dakotan. 😉 So start saving all those Pabst Blue Ribbon empties my little Bismark’s, you’re going to need all the nickels you can get.
