Into the Heart of My Child!

To quote the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar: “What is understood, does not need to be discussed!” Therefore, I will save you from reading another blog about how U2 loves playing Boston, best. My tribe rocked “The Gahhhhden” in Boston #1 and Boston #2 like it’s never been rocked before, but for me, tonight is going to be the most special U2 night of them all. Tonight, I get to see U2 like I’ve never seen U2 before, through the eyes of my 8 year old son.

It will be his first concert ever and theoretically, it should be his last. I mean, how do you top seeing U2 in Boston…the answer: YOU DON’T…unless you see them again in Boston. But if U2 were to call it quits after this tour, my son doesn’t have to go to another show and win. I envision my son sitting in some bar 20 years from now sitting around with a bunch of different people, all making their cases for the best concerts they have ever seen. Someone will say: “I saw the Stones!” “Oh yeah, I was at Woodstock!” Then from the bar, my son turns around and says quietly, “I saw U2 in Boston!” All posers quietly leave the bar embarrassed, apologizing as they pass him.

Going tonight is not going to be an easy show for me. I’ll be watching him, watch U2 for most of it. Knowing the historical significance of tonight, it has to make up for all the wrong doings in my life, right? I mean, once Saint Peter reads through all the ridiculously stupid things I’ve done in my life, when he gets to the line item: Brought son to see U2 in Boston….that should negate everything and be an automatic entry into Heaven, right?

For me, tonight’s set list is irrelevant, U2 can play whatever they want. The crowd will be irrelevant, I know my fellow Bostonians will rock, as usual. The lights will be irrelevant, because the only light tonight will be the one shining from my son’s face as he watches for the first time, the greatest band in our hometown. Does it get any better…I SAY, “NOT!”

Now, let’s all sing the following together to commemorate this magical moment:

YEAH, WE’LL SHINE LIKE STARS IN THE SUMMER NIGHT
WE’LL SHINE LIKE STARS, IT’LL BE ALRIGHT
ONE HEART, ONE HEART, ONE HEART…………..ONE HEART!
