U2 & “Deflate-gate!”

My good friend Danielson checked in with me this week wondering what all the “Hoopla” was about the Patriots and their deflated balls? (Go ahead and try to say that phrase without laughing)  Then, young Daniel made a brilliant analogy and compared “Deflate-gate” to being a U2 fan.  Mind officially blown!  The connection is not too far off. People, far and wide who aren’t even football fans joined in on the mob mentality and began stomping more air out of the story than what was really there, know any band that just went through a similar situation back in September with a certain album release?  It was as if everyone morphed into Sharon Osbourne over night.   I thought love & logic were suppose to keep us clear?

Let me bring everyone up to speed.  For those of you not living in New England, the New England Patriots have dominated the NFL for the past 15 years, just like U2 has dominated the music scene for the past 35 years.  As we all know, domination brings on hatred and envy.  If you don’t think U2, the Patriots or any other group that has dominated for so long is not hated for the mere fact that they are great, you’re delusional.  Sour grapes started “Deflate-gate” and as of this writing, the huge conspiracy theory that was suppose to bring down the Patriots was nothing more than a ball boy bringing the footballs into a walk in bathroom for 90 seconds to go to the bathroom.  The same people who don’t think U2 pay any taxes in Ireland are the same ones waiting to pounce on the Patriots. Not happening!

If you know me or my writing, you know that I am not a U2 butt boy or apologist.  I have hammered them on several occasions…when the facts warranted and so will I hammer my Patriots if evidence supports any impropriety with any rule violation.  Bono quasi apologized for the so called Apple snafu, an apology that was not needed.  Patriot owner, Robert Kraft has now requested that the NFL apologize for calling into play the integrity of the Patriots.  I hope they do apologize.

U2 and the Patriots should be celebrated for their continued drive towards success.  Success should be rewarded, not hated, envied or “Deflated!” 😉
