UPDATED: U2 to Perform at Apple Event, and Announce Album Information

The New York Times has reported that U2 will play a significant roll in Tuesdays Apple event. Citing sources close to the event U2 will be performing and announce album plans:

“Extending a decade-long connection with Apple, U2 will play a significant part in Apple’s event, which will be held at a performing arts center in Cupertino, Calif., the company’s home base, according to three people briefed on its plans. In addition to performing, the band will reveal an integration with Apple’s products that is connected to its next album, which is expected to come out by the end of the year, according to these people, who spoke anonymously because the band’s appearance — and its deal with Apple — is supposed to be a surprise.”

It has been long rumored that U2 and Apple may have a deal in place, and U2 could have a roll in the September 9th event. Apple is expected to introduce a new line of iPhones, and possibly some sort of wearable device. No further details on what type of U2 tie in there will be in Apple products. So we have to wait and see tomorrow.

The event will be streamed live at http://www.apple.com/live/ at 10 am Pacific, 1 pm Eastern.

UPDATE: The Irish Times has stated in a recent post that a U2 spokeswoman has stated that: “They are not releasing their album on the iPhone and they are not performing at the iPhone launch.” So it appears that they may not be performing as stated in earlier news stories. News and details are fluid and no one can be totally sure what exactly will happen tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Also, the Dublin video shoot on Samuel Beckett bridge was not for a U2 video but was for an Apple commercial featuring U2. We could assume that the commercial will feature a U2 single? Soon we’ll know.
