OK, it’s confession time. I’ve always thought that the song “Last Night on Earth”, from the album Pop was a very poor choice for a single. It’s not that I don’t like the song…while it isn’t my favorite by any stretch, I don’t think that it’s a bad song, per se.

U2 don’t do a huge amount of covers, so usually when they do one, it’s of a song that’s pretty special. “Unchained Melody” and “Paint it Black” come to mind, as those two songs are stone cold classics which U2 made their own.

Today, we’re continuing our series on the songs from U2’s 1997 album Pop, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, with an article on that album’s second track, “Do You Feel Loved”. “Do You Feel Loved” is noteworthy in that it is the one U2 song that I am aware of that most heavily […]

The Astrobaby and the album that inspired it turn 24 today, and you know what that means: six more years until it gets an anniversary tour! Okay, that’s not likely – but who’s to say that a Zoo TV 2022 tour can’t happen? That would be a great way to incorporate a few songs […]

Continuing our coverage of the Pop album in this, the year of its twentieth anniversary, I thought that today I’d write about something a little offbeat but still related to Pop. I say that it’s a tragedy because the one small glimpse that the world at large was given into this musical adventure, a B-side from the 1991 single […]

This past weekend was my birthday, and as per my annual tradition, I mostly spent the day with my mother and my wife watching U2 stuff. The last thing we watched before bed this year was U2’s 1988 theatrical release, Rattle and Hum. During the segment of the film wherein the band visit Graceland, the […]

U2 fans can be a persnickety bunch. For one thing, it seems that some of us aren’t satisfied with anything the band do. I’m sure you’ve all read just as many negative internet comments and forum threads as I have, so you know what I’m talking about. For another thing, it seems that some of […]

U2’s 1997 album Pop has the unfortunate distinction of being one of those albums that doesn’t get a lot of love. I’m not necessarily even talking about love from the fans, either. Although there was a great outcry of public hate from U2 fandom when the album was initially released, nowadays it is nearly as […]
