Kiwi fans of Irish rock icons U2 are getting their hopes up as rumours of a New Zealand tour swirl.
The bands’ promoter, Live Nation, is refusing to confirm or deny if U2 will visit next year. When asked about the possible tour a publicist said, “no comment from Live Nation”.
U2 started a small tour to mark the 30th anniversary of their 1987 album, The Joshua Tree. They had scheduled 33 concerts in North America and Europe from May to August.
The Joshua Tree was released following the death of the band’s New Zealand roadie, Greg Carroll, who travelled with U2 after meeting them during their 1984 Unforgettable Fire concert in Auckland. It included the single One Tree Hill, a tribute to Carroll.
