Marching “Fourth” With U2

As we dig ourselves out of 19 feet of snow here in the northeast, we have now entered the month of March, which had me wondering, “What are U2’s best March(ing) songs?” So on this March fourth, here are U2’s best songs that will get you to March forth. See what I did there.

Pride/MLK-The King of marching. (See what I did th…) Nevermind. U2’s ode to Martin Luther King & the civil rights movement is still as relevant today as it was 50 years ago. It may have been April 4th that the shot rang out in the Memphis sky, but it was MLK’s ability to get people to March forth to help end the injustices in our country. Great man, Great song!

SBS– Enough said. Paratroopers marching in, via parachutes to put an end to a peaceful march was anything but peaceful. “The Troubles” are still relevant today in all parts of the world. ISIS, Israel, any family gathering where religion gets discussed, there is going to be conflict. March forth and turn the other cheek before you end up on the wrong end of a sword in some grainy video shot in some remote desert sent from ISIS.

Get on your Boots– It’s tough to Get on your boots and march forth when there’s no line on the horizon, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying. Get out there and do something with your life. It’s not all candy floss ice cream for most, so get on your boots and go lend a helping hand.

New Year’s Day– 1st Hitler marched on Poland and then decades later, Lech Walesa marched on Poland’s repressive government and earned democracy for Poland. GIVE EM LECH! Nothing may change on New Year’s Day, but when Lech Marched forth…everything changed!

Walk On– Burma’s version of Lech Walesa, ASSK showed the people of Burma that you don’t have to March into battle to win, you can just Walk On…..after 20 years of house arrest, of course. Wearing the ASSK mask that U2.com printed out a few years ago is optional. Of course, if you Walk On into neighboring China or Thailand, you could end up working in a sweatshop, so make sure you march in the right direction. 😉

Miss Sarajevo– While Serbia was trying to shove Bosnia up Croatia’s Montenegro, here she came, Miss Sarajevo marching down high street with her crown. Yugoslavia marched off the world map simultaneously when the people of Sarajevo marched back to normalcy and had a beauty pageant right in the face of one of the worst genocides this side of WWII.

This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now– U2 marched home that night after seeing The Clash & marched right into our hearts and musical history to become the best rock band of all time. There are many soldiers that signed their lives away to join U2 as they conquered the human spirit and our army is as strong today as its ever been. Complete surrender is all we know.

You have your marching orders, so March “Fourth” and conquer the day!
